In the Courtyard: A Story in Soft Pink & Woolen Grey

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>   Bonjour!   >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This winter has been cuh-razy! For the last few weeks we have had days in the 30s followed by a day in the 50s followed by days completely in between and yet never in a steady progression. Fortunately, I was able to visit the University recently and have the chance to experience winter on campus again. And how magical it is! I love the sight of the old buildings towering over dusted courtyards and the sound of the bells pealing as students shuffle to their next classes. The area pictured above is one of my favorites, though I never spent much time there as a student.

As for my outfit, I chose some go-to winter pieces for this visit: light pink snow boots for a more stylish hoofing through the snow, a beret for added class, and the ever-popular plaid scarf. One motivation for getting me through these cold, dark days? Finding outerwear that I can be excited to go out in! Shop my look below. <3

What do you enjoy about winter?

Little Pink Riding Hood

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>   Bonjour!   >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Winter has definitely hit full force! We have been having temps below 0 here and on a couple of occasions my area of Illinois had colder weather than Alaska! All I have been wanting to do since December arrived was build a snowman, but at the rate we're going I would be a snowman myself before I even rolled out the first snowball! So all I'm asking, dear winter, is that I can have one nice snow day to create something nice for you. Please. Me and my toasty black boots will be sitting inside waiting for that day. :)

A Bright and Shiny New Year

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>   Bonjour!   >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I hope you all had a bright and happy new year!

Every year, I try to focus the patterns or textures OTD onto something sparkly, glittery, shiny, you name it. I settled on this dress and bejeweled collar for 2018. Why? I love the chic fit of the torso and the depth of the neckline made fitting a collared top underneath quite easy. Matched with sleek black heels at the foot, this outfit was an eye-catching start to the new year!

2017 in Review!

Bonjour!

It has been one busy year! Within the confines of 2017, the blog has undergone a new look and new name, changing from its former Cover It Girl title to The Darling Petite in hopes of better representing style from the petite perspective. As the header says, "Though she be but little, she is FIERCE!" :D

Despite these changes, the reach of The Darling Petite covers the same bases as before- style and fashion being number one. Read on to see the top outfits of the year.

It was a cold start to the year, but January and March also had enough share of warmer days to get dressed up and head out.

February was a favorite month of mine because it allowed me to highlight my wardrobe's preferred color: pink!

No year is complete without a trip away! 2017 brought The Darling Petite to museums and gardens in a major metropolitan port city as well as to the beaches and charming canals of Florida.

Someday My Prince Will Come (A Snow White Cosplay)

Bonjour!

As promised, here are the (albeit belated) pictures from this year's Halloween costume (or as I have taken to calling it, cosplay). Surprisingly, they turned out really well despite having worn the costume all day at work, having to avoid the random people walking through, and wearing non-walking flats. I was never really into cosplay and costuming that much prior to this year, when I got to attend my first comic con as Agent Carter. Since then, I have been more eager to take on different characters and see what kind of twist I could put on them (you may have also seen my Belle interpretation on Instagram). I've got a few characters in mind for my next cosplay, but I'm still working on the finishing touches, so stay tuned. :)

Until then, my little birds!

True Beauty...

True Beauty. It's something that everyone wants, but seems just about unobtainable to everyone. Recently, I've been wondering just what true beauty means. Does it mean the best-looking makeup, the hair with the best products, the body with the curviest curves? I'm inclined to think not. Let's take a close look at the things that truly define us- and therefore our TRUE beauty- as a person. Is it our ability to make people smile? The way we give encouragement to friends and enemies alike? Or maybe it's the way we befriend everyone that walks into our lives. Whatever makes us feel beautiful, without having to look in a mirror to see it, is what defines us as truly beautiful. Not what we put on our faces, bodies, or heads, but what we already have, in our hearts and minds.
